Chaffee R-2 School District
Safe Return to In-Person and Continuity of Services Plan (SRCSP)

We encourage our Chaffee Families to visit our 2021-2022 Safe Return to School Plan as it has been revised since last school year and revised a second time in November 2021.   Additionally, the CDC and DESE have revised their guidance for public education and information regarding COVID -19 and updates can be found on the CDC (cdc.gov) and DESE (dese.mo.gov) websites. District leaders will continue to seek guidance from the federal, state and local agencies but will continue to make decisions that specifically relate to our district.

Review and Revision Process:
In August of 2020, the Chaffee Board of Education approved a Safe Return to School Plan.
This plan was developed to assist with the reopening of the Chaffee R-2 School District and to outline precautions the district will take to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and students. The guidelines referenced in this plan are based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Scott County Health Department.
If necessary, this plan will be revised every six months to keep up to date with state and local guidance. As revisions are made, the district and board of education will seek input from stakeholders such as teachers, parents, community members, students and local health agencies.
Public comments in regards to this plan will be welcome during school board meetings for the 2021-2022 school year.

In addition, the CDC and DESE have revised their guidance for public education and information regarding COVID -19 and updates can be found on the following websites:

DESE (dese.mo.gov)

District Update Regarding Masks
October 12, 2021

During the Board of Education Meeting on Monday, October 11, it was decided by the Chaffee School Board to transition from the school-wide mask mandate to that of an optional status.  Therefore, staff and students will now have a choice to wear or not to wear a mask.  Masks will still be available upon request for staff and students.
In addition, contact tracing and quarantine protocols will still be observed as directed by the Scott County Health Department.

A Message from Mr. Brad Blackman
Temporary Mask Mandate
Effective Wednesday, September 15

Chaffee R-2 Students and Families:  During the recent Chaffee R-2 School Board meeting, a collaborative decision was made by School Board and District Administration to implement a plan for healthy students to remain at school and lessen the chance of a quarantine by issuing a temporary mask mandate.  This mask mandate will begin on Wednesday, September 15, and will be reviewed again at the October 11th School Board meeting.
Currently, Scott County is number two in the state for positive cases with a positivity rate of 33.5% with 169 of those cases being between the ages of 0-18.  Chaffee School District has had to quarantine over 170 students grades PK- 12 since the start of the school year. We understand the learning loss that this creates for students and the extra burden that this places on working parents.  When students are masked, the regulations to quarantine are drastically reduced, and more students will be allowed to stay in school if they are healthy. Therefore, beginning on Wednesday, September 15, the district will once again be issuing a mask mandate for all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, during the school day.  Masks are not required during outdoor activities.  Face coverings include paper masks, cloth masks, or gaiters which are worn over the nose and mouth. The district has paper masks to provide for students and adults.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping your children safe and in school.

A Message from Brad Blackman, Superintendent
August 27, 2021
With the school year under way, our schools are already experiencing some students needing to quarantine from being an out of school contact due to COVID-19.  As of this message, our schools only have 2 positive cases, and those students were out of school positives.  Although wearing a mask is an option and an individual family decision, I strongly recommend that students wear masks to school to increase protection and avoid having to possibly quarantine.  As a reminder, if you are feeling sick, please stay at home. Additionally, masks will be available at school for those students that choose to wear them.
There is more information available on the school website in regards to quarantine procedures. Quarantine procedures and protocols can be found by clicking on the Safe Return to School Plan under District Information.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to make our way through this school year.
